For over 30 years, Julie has taught at and/or been a visiting writer at colleges, universities and conferences in both Canada and the U.S, including Concordia University (Montreal), The Frost Place (NH), Vanderbilt University (Nashville, TN) and Pixar Animation Studios, in Emeryville, CA, among others. Recently, she's been a (virtual) guest poet in classes SUNY/Stony Brook and The University of Tennessee (Knoxville).

Since 2005, she’s taught classes for The Writing Salon in San Francisco. These classes have included 5 and 9-week workshops, 6-month advanced classes, and an annual 9-week class on revision for poets.
 
Julie also runs a private 9-week workshop, and works with individuals poets to guide and/or edit groups of poems or full manuscripts.
